CILM is part of Laos' public health system, performing diagnostic testing on, amongst other, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and tuberculosis. CILM was established by Fondation Mérieux in 2009 and since then supported CILM to provide the best diagnostic laboratory services possible to the people of Laos PDR.
DATOS conducted an extensive laboratory assessment based on WHO's Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool. DATOS experts are the lead developers of the LQSI tool and as such are the best suited partners to perform laboratory assessments using this tool. The assessment was combined with provision of technical assistance such that CILM not only knows what should be improved, but also how this can be done most efficiently.
The outcome of the assessment was used to determine the next steps towards implementation of the quality management system at CILM, advancing further on the road towards ISO 15189 accreditation. DATOS assissted CILM with planning of these activities and provided training to CILM staff to optimally prepare them to implement these activities efficiently, leaving the laboratory not only knowing its progress, but also the best way forward.
