DATOS is assigned by the ChallengeTB project of USAID to assist the National Tuberculosis Programme of Myanmar with the strengthening of TB laboratories. This includes training in laboratory quality management and laboratory biorisk management.
Laboratory data indispensable for TB diagnosis
Laboratory data is crucial for TB diagnosis and control, not only to confirm clinical diagnosis, but also to determine whether the infecting TB bacterium is sensitive for the standard drugs used and whether the treatment is killing the bacteria which are present.
DATOS assists the TB laboratories in Myanmar to strengthen their system and performance, which will lead to quality assured TB laboratory services resulting in better treatment of TB patients and stronger surveillance of TB and drug resistance in the country.
